Most people will probably know someone who plays golf. In fact, one website I read said the top five sports played by men in New Zealand are: 26 per cent golf, 15 per cent cricket, 14 per cent tennis, 14 per cent touch football and 11 per cent rugby union. Now I don't know how precise this is but I do know that there are also thousands of women, teenagers and younger children who enjoy a round of golf, whether it be competitive or for leisure.
Anyone who has ever teed off will enjoy this humorous book by cartoonist Garrick Tremain. Filled with poems and cartoons, it's sure to provoke a smile from even the most serious golfer.
Here's a little taste.
The Lost Ball
We slogged around undergrowth
Looking for his ball,
Until he cried, well here it is!
It wasn't lost at all!
Are you sure it's yours? I asked.
Certain! he replied.
But his ball was in my pocket
So I knew he bloody lied!
