DVD Review: I Love You Philip Morris

I think it is fair to say we'll never again see Hollywood A-listers Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor play a pair of gay lovers.

I'm not quite sure why we did in the first place as they play very different roles in this rather bizarre comedy.

Steven Russell (Carrey) is happily married when a car accident forces him to re-evaluate his life.

He decides he can no longer hide his homosexuality so comes out of the closet in a big way and leaves his policewoman wife.

Living an extravagant life in every way, Steven falls foul of the law after using a chunk of company money for his own fun.

It is in prison that he meets the quiet and reserved Philip Morris (McGregor) and falls hopelessly in love.

An intelligent man, Steven brushes up on the law so he can help Philip win freedom from prison.

On the outside, the pair live the high life.

Despite Philip's urgings that Steven stay on the right side of the law, he can't help himself from chasing the easy dollar with one con after another.

Just how long Steven can stay a step ahead of the authorities and continue his dream life is in the lap of the gods.

There are some funny moments in I Love You Philip Morris, which you'd expect from Carrey, and the story itself is a little offbeat.
