Aucklanders shouldn't put away their umbrellas just yet, as bucket-loads of rain are expected to hit most of the North Island today.
But the good news is the rain will clear up by tomorrow -- just in time for the Santa parade.
MetService meteorologist Karl Loots said most of the dreary weather was in the North Island today.
"The weather front is still affecting Auckland tomorrow, but it will clear up by tomorrow morning," he said.
He said there was a moderate risk of thunderstorms across the North Island from Taranaki through to the Bay of Plenty, Waikato and Auckland regions.
However, rain will clear overnight tonight.
"Things are improving quite quickly tomorrow."
Today was much calmer than yesterday, when wild winds lashed the capital for much of the day, Mr Loots said.
"There will be northerly wind today but it will improve tomorrow."
The South Island would mostly be fine, with "nothing severe" after strong winds overnight Friday.
