In today's paper you'll find the nomination form for the 2011-2012 Wairarapa Times-Age Sports Awards.
The awards night, to be held on June 6 at the Copthorne Hotel & Resort Solway Park, is the glamour event of the year for the sports community in Wairarapa.
And this year we want to show how proud we are of our sporting achievers by putting together a formal evening to celebrate and showcase the best of the best.
Two new categories have been added to the awards this year: Junior or Youth Sports Team of the Year, and the Wairarapa Sports Education Trust Scholarship.
The trust, along with The Radio Network and Copthorne Hotel & Resort, are our partners in presenting these awards, and this new scholarship has been offered as a way to give a local sportsperson a strategic leg-up towards achieving their goals over the next 12 months.
Being a competitive sportsperson is not easy or cheap. The costs of equipment, travel and accommodation, and often time away from work or school, are significant, and most manage to compete at a high level only through the dedicated support of mums, dads, partners and families, and through fundraising and sponsors.
This scholarship, worth $3000, will make a huge difference for one deserving sportsperson, by allowing them to focus on training, competing and reaching their goals.
The Times-Age is pleased to be presenting three awards: The Junior Sports Personality of the Year, the Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Supreme Award.
Now's your chance to nominate the sportsperson you think is deserving of recognition: for their performance, their commitment to coaching, refereeing or sports administration, or for a lifetime of effort and achievement in sport.
Nominations are open until May 18.
