Carterton's newest councillor has been officially sworn in.
Russell Keys, winner of the February 17 by-election, made a formal declaration to act in the best interests of the district at a council meeting held yesterday.
Mr Keys promised to act faithfully and impartially in executing his responsibilities as councillor.
Mayor John Booth formally welcomed Mr Keys to the council, and said it was nice to have a younger person on board.
Mr Keys is the son of Barry Keys, who was Mayor of Carterton for many years and the first mayor of the Carterton District Council.
"This is very, very special. Like me there's a family history and that's very special in a rural town and district like Carterton.
"I'm very pleased to have you on board."
