There's one happy big-time punter in New Zealand - and one very unhappy one - after the All Blacks delivered on their World Cup dream.
And somewhere inbetween are relieved TAB officials.
The two largest bets received by the TAB on the All Blacks virtually cancelled each other out by virtue of New Zealand's 34-17 triumph over the Wallabies.
A punter from the North Island who laid $400,000 on the men in black - the biggest wager in the TAB's history - would have been nervous when the Australians closed to 21-17 in the second half but eventually won $140,000 after backing Richie McCaw's men to win the final at $1.35.
But the TAB weren't hit hard after pocketing $130,000 from an Auckland punter who had bet on anyone but the All Blacks winning the tournament.
There were other Kiwi winners. Winger Nehe Milner-Skudder was heavily backed at $9 to score the first try of the final and did exactly that. Meanwhile, Beauden Barrett's try in the final minute pushed the All Blacks winning margin past 12 points, rewarding those punters who backed a big New Zealand win.
New Zealand started the final as heavy favourites at $1.35 to beat Australia who were priced at $3.
A TAB spokesperson said the All Blacks are already the early favourites to successfully defend their title at the next World Cup in Japan in 2019.
