A 20-year-old male has been arrested after he went on the run after being freed from prison to attend his brother's funeral.
Quade Tai was arrested on October 19 after evading police custody for six days.
Tai was remanded in custody when his brother, 15-year-old Morrocco Tai, died after he fled police in a stolen car and crashed in Otara on October 9.
The crash also resulted in two female passengers, aged 16, gaining serious injuries.
After the incident, Quade Tai applied for bail and was granted temporary release from Mt Eden Corrections Facility to attend Morrocco's funeral, police said.
A condition of that bail was that Quade return to the prison by a specified time after the service, but he failed to return and police subsequently issued a warrant for his arrest.
A police spokesperson said Quade was later found at an address in Glen Innes and arrested in relation to two warrants for his arrest, one for assaulting police and one for burglary.
He had earlier been remanded in custody after appearing in the Auckland District Court on charges including assaulting police, injuring police, burglary and producing and procuring methamphetamine.
