Most of the landslide partly blocking Wellington's Ngaio Gorge has now been cleared.
Wellington City Council will next build a shipping container wall filled with concrete blocks.
It said the blocks would act as a rockfall protection barrier while work continued in the area.
Four containers were delivered to the site yesterday.
The cordon at the bottom of the slip has been moved up the road restoring access to businesses in the lower part of the work area.
The council said it hoped at the very least a one-way system would be in place early next week, although speed would be restricted to 30km/h in both directions.
A temporary road next to Trelissick Park is also complete. Minor cleaning and paving works are planned this weekend.
