A dog has been rescued by firefighters after falling down a cliff in the seaside suburb of St Heliers in Auckland.
The rescue took pace at Glover Park, which has a steep cliff down to Gentlemens Bay.
Mt Wellington fire service senior station officer John Roberts said the dog ran off the edge of the cliff and fell down a 5m sheer drop. It attempted to make its way back to the top but became stuck.
Firefighters abseiled down to reach the 30kg labrador. They put it in a harness and helped it walk back up the cliff.
The dog was not injured.
Roberts said people often get stuck on the cliff going down to Gentlemens Bay, while trying to rescue their dogs.
He encouraged people to call the Fire Service if their dog is ever stuck.
"Don't climb down yourself," he said.
