A man and a youth have been declined bail after allegedly attacking a man who died at the weekend in Auckland.
Both the 16-year-old and 21-year-old are charged with assault with intent to injure and had their names suppressed by Principal Youth Court Judge Andrew Becroft.
They made respective bail bids before Manukau Youth Court this afternoon but the judge rejected both applications.
He suppressed his reasons for his decision and any details of in-court discussions.
The charges came about after an incident in the suburb of Mt Wellington in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Police are yet to release the name of the victim.
Further charges are possible as officers continue with their inquiries and work to identify and locate others involved in the attack, Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Higson said.
The two accused will be back in court next month.
Police urged anyone with information about the incident to contact Counties Manukau Police on 09 261 1300 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
