A man who fell two storeys at an inner-city hotel reportedly slipped over a railing while throwing up.
The man was critically injured at Auckland's Rendezvous Hotel after falling the equivalent of two storeys into a maintenance area at about 3.20 this morning.
Firefighters took more than an hour to winch the man to safety after he fell into a narrow cavity.
The area was fenced-off with a high railing.
Staff at the Rendezvous Hotel told Fairfax the man slipped over a railing while vomiting.
He was not a guest.
The man was taken to Auckland City Hospital in a critical condition with suspected head injuries but his condition had since improved.
An Auckland District Health Board spokesman said the man was in a stable condition this evening.
A Rendezvous general manager referred questions to a spokesperson, who is yet to respond.
