The man accused of murdering a Christchurch toddler last month has been granted bail.
The 22-year-old Christchurch resident with interim name suppression denies assaulting and killing 15-month-old Ihaka Paora Braxton Stokes on July 3.
He had been remanded in custody after his arrest.
After an earlier bail hearing at the High Court in Christchurch, Justice David Gendall today said that the man could be released on bail, subject to strict conditions.
Details of the bail hearing are suppressed.
Ihaka suffered multiple blunt force injuries including broken bones in the alleged assault at a house in Truman Rd, Bryndwr.
He died at Christchurch Hospital shortly afterwards.
A case review hearing for the man will be held at the High Court on October 2.
