Today's showers in Auckland should dry up in time for the weekend, giving residents a quick break from winter weather.
Meteorologist for MetService John Law said the weekend should be fine and dry, despite some cloud cover predicted for Saturday.
"As we go in towards Sunday, it looks like a fine day, plenty of sunshine, light winds and really, a good looking day."
In fact MetService had good news for everyone in the North Island who wanted to take mum out this Sunday, with fine weather predicted for most of the region this Mother's day.
One area that won't get a break from the wet weather was the west coast of the South Island, where severe weather warnings remained in place in Fiordland and parts of Southland.
However warm westerlies meant mild temperatures could be expected all around the country.
People should make the most of the fine weather while it lasts, with rain forecast to return early next week, coming in from the Tasman Sea.
"It does look like a rather windy end to the day on Sunday and a windy start to next week," said Mr Law.
