Police say they have tracked down the driver of a car possibly involved in the death of a man today.
A 41 year-old man died after a fight erupted outside a karaoke bar in Gooch Place, East Auckland at about 2:15 this morning.
Police were interested in a vehicle believed to be involved in the altercation.
This afternoon, Counties Manukau Police said they were speaking with the driver and he was assisting them with their investigation.
Detective Senior Sergeant Albie Alexander said he wanted to locate and speak to as many people as possible who might have information that could help the investigation.
"A post-mortem examination of the deceased is scheduled to take place tomorrow, after which time we hope to be able to release his name," DSS Alexander said.
"We are working closely with the deceased's family and remain focused on their wellbeing and to ensuring all available information about the circumstances of their loved-one's death is fully investigated," he added.
Police said the area where the incident took place had good CCTV coverage, and they were hoping it would assist with their investigation.
