A homicide investigation has been launched into the suspicious death of a 29-year-old man in west Auckland last night.

Police say they went to a home in the suburb of Ranui "late in the evening'' after reports a man had been taken to Waitakere Hospital with "unexplained injuries''.

He later died of his injuries, police said.

The home has been cordoned off as detectives examine the area.

A post mortem examination is expected later today.

Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone who knows about the man's death to call Waitakere CIB on 09 839 0600 or Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
