Two teenagers have appeared in court following an alleged street assault that left a Wanganui man with serious head injuries.
Kory O'Neill, 18, appeared in Whanganui District Court yesterday charged with wounding with intent to injure.
Judge Russell Callander remanded him on bail with a 24-hour curfew to appear in court again on February 2.
O'Neill and a 16-year-old are alleged to have seriously assaulted a 19-year-old man just after 3am on Saturday morning as the man walked through the city.
The 16-year old appeared in Youth Court and was remanded in custody to a CYF facility in the lower North Island.
Detective Sergeant Phil Taylor said the man was allegedly knocked over and beaten while on the ground.
Nearby residents called police and the pair were arrested a short time later.
The man was taken to Wanganui Hospital where he remained in a serious but stable condition.
