A 4.8 magnitude aftershock has rattled Christchurch this afternoon.
The 1.44pm earthquake struck 10 kilometres east of Christchurch, at a depth of 10 kilometres, GeoNet reported.
It was widely felt in Christchurch and the surrounding areas, but police and fire service told APNZ they had received no reports of damage.
It was the fifth, and strongest, aftershock to hit the area in the past 24 hours.
Magnitude 3.3, 3.7, 3.3 and 3.2 quakes also hit Christchurch last night and this morning.
