A man facing charges of bashing a teenager over a Facebook post has been granted name suppression.
The 40-year-old man, who lives in rural Masterton, appeared in Masterton District Court today charged with assault with intent to injure.
He did not enter a plea and was remanded on bail to reappear on Monday.
The man's lawyer, James Elliott, asked for interim name suppression for his client, a request granted by Registrar Mark Elliott.
The request was not contested by police prosecutor Senior Sergeant Garry Wilson.
Last week a 15-year-old Makoura College student was punched and kicked at the Tranzit bus depot on Masterton's Queen St.
The incident took place after "negative comments" were written on social networking website Facebook, Senior Sergeant Warwick Burr of Masterton police said at the time.
