Power will be cut for a whole day in much of the Far North next week as Transpower undergoes maintenance and installs new equipment.
Transpower says that can't be done while the line is in service, so a power outage is planned for Sunday, May 1, between 8am and 5pm.
Transpower general manager for grid performance, Garth Dibley, says while there is no ideal time to switch off power, they need to maintain the only transmission line that supplies the Far North.
Next Sunday's outage will affect areas north of north Hokianga, the Mangamukas and the Far North's east coast.
