A 10-month old boy is in hospital after being attacked by a dog at a Gisborne house yesterday afternoon.
A fight between three boxer dogs inside the Centennial Crescent home took a terrible turn when a man tried to break up the fight, and one dog attacked the boy in his arms.
Emergency services were called to the home and animal control officers seized one dog from the address.
Ambulance officers treated the boy for injuries to his face and arm, before taking him to Gisborne Hospital.
This morning a hospital spokeswoman said the injuries were not as bad as first thought, and it was likely the boy would be released later today.
Gisborne District Council animal control officer Steve Greaves a dog had been impounded while a decision was made on its future. He strongly recommended putting down the animal.
