The man who died trying to retrieve a dinghy in Auckland's Waitemata Harbour last night has been named as Bruce Sydney Williamson, who lived on the North Shore.
Police said Mr Williamson, 48, was seen entering the water to retrieve the dinghy off Northcote Point about 8.30pm.
He was not wearing a life jacket and could not be revived by ambulance staff when he was brought to shore.
The case had been referred to the coroner.
