A Taranaki man was killed and his elderly mother seriously injured in a single vehicle smash yesterday afternoon.
Police said that the 63-year-old man's people-mover ran out of control on a bend and rolled several times on State Highway 43 just south of the Opunake township, 64km southwest of New Plymouth.
The man died at the scene and his mother, believed to be in her 80s who was his only passenger, was treated at the scene before being taken to Taranaki Base Hospital.
The Serious Crash Investigation Unit is investigating the cause of the crash.
