New Year celebrations proved too much for one man when a sex-enhancing drug gave him heart trouble, forcing him to be airlifted from Waiheke Island.
The man, in his 70s, was airlifted to Auckland Hospital by the Westpac rescue helicopter at 4am on New Year's Day after earlier taking the prescribed amount of medication.
Rescue helicopter staff could not confirm the brand of pill, but said he had a history of heart trouble. A pharmacist said people with heart problems could get into trouble with sex-enhancing drugs. "It's medication that dilates the blood vessels, so people with heart problems probably have to watch out."
It could not be confirmed whether the man had now made a full recovery.
