There are claims Clayton Weatherston has a price on his head.
The convicted murderer is in Christchurch Men's Prison after being found guilty of murdering ex-girlfriend Sophie Elliott.
Newstalk ZB reports Weatherston has been moved to an at-risk unit, following taunts from fellow inmates.
Sources have contacted the newsroom saying Weatherston was taunted from the moment he arrived at the prison.
One says $55,000 has been offered in exchange for Weatherston's "unpleasant death". However the source says that price is expected to reach six figures as time goes on.
A Corrections spokesman says the department will not comment on whether Weatherston was moved. He says Weatherston has not been assaulted, but it is possible verbal abuse has taken place.
Weatherston, 33, was yesterday convicted of murdering Elliott. He stabbed her 216 times at her Dunedin home.
