More than 500 people marched through Opotiki yesterday to protest against
increasing violence, following the death of a local retired schoolteacher.
John Rowe's body was found on his bed by a neighbour who had arrived
to take him to a medical appointment on November 25.
Thirty police are now searching for the killer who may have broken into the 78-year-old man's house to commit a burglary.
Community leader Robert Edwards told One News it was time people
stood up. "We can't just leave it in the hands of the police, we have got to do something about it ourselves."
