The Pretzel Bacon Cheese Burger will be added to the menu at Wendy's fastfood outlets for a limited time from Friday, the fastfood joint has revealed. The original burger bun will be replaced with soft pretzels, a key part of the new item.
Wendy's chief executive, Danielle Lendich, said Kiwis weren't as familiar with soft pretzels as consumers in the United States.
"Our challenge will be getting our customers to try it," Lendich said.
"Kiwi tastes are definitely becoming more sophisticated though and this burger really does live up to all the hype."
The unusual burger will set customers back $8.90 and will be available for a limited time.
At the end of 2013, Time magazine cited a Burger Business report saying no other burger was anticipated or more scrutinised.
"Its popularity cemented 2013 as the Year of the Bun," it said.
Lendich hinted then that she was keen to bring the burger to NZ.
"We certainly all enjoy a good food fad," she said.
