Shots were reportedly fired on Karangahape Rd tonight followed by a dramatic car chase ending on Auckland's Harbour Bridge.
Auckland Police District Command Centre Senior Sergeant Darryl Simeti said they received reports of shots being fired at another man around 8.30pm.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.
One man was reported to have fled in a small, black vehicle and a short pursuit followed, until the fleeing vehicle crashed into another car and then rammed a police car on the Harbour Bridge, Mr Simeti said.
"One offender tried to run, but he was apprehended. We've got units dealing with the incident at Karangahape Rd and then we've got multiple units on the bridge dealing with that."
Police established that only one alleged offender was involved, Mr Simeti said.
"There was only one person in the car when we stopped the car." A pistol-type weapon was recovered from the front seat of the vehicle.
The Harbour Bridge was partially closed while police cleared the scene.
