Credit Suisse First Boston has been rated the country's top broker.
In a survey of 14 local fund managers by Greenwich Associates, measuring the quality of brokers' research and dealing (the Greenwich Quality Index), Boston was placed ahead of JB Were & Son, followed by Ord Minnett, ABN Amro and UBS Warburg.
The measure is new so there are no earlier ratings to compare.
In overall research, Boston was rated number one by 23 per cent of the fund managers, switching places with last year's winner JB Were (20 per cent).
Ord Minnett with 13 per cent was third ahead of ABN Amro on 12 per cent.
In company research, Boston headed JB Were and Ord Minnett. That order was repeated in macro research, although ABN Amro tied with Ord Minnett for third place.
JB Were improved from 6 per cent in macro to 18 per cent. Boston's analysts were ranked top in nine of 23 industry categories, followed by JB Were (seven) and Ord Minnett (five).
Boston's analysts were in the top three in 20 of the 23 industry categories, with JB Were with 16 and Ord Minnett with 12.
