Wairarapa's only civil union celebrant Gaye Gough is standing up for the gay community.
A public meeting on the Marriage Amendment Bill will be held tonight and Mrs Gough placed a sandwich board outside Masterton's Paper Plus to help publicise the meeting.
"I don't mind if people are for or against marriage equality, I would just like them to know the meeting is on," she said. "I was just a bit concerned that not many people knew the meeting was on, but it's very important that we have a discussion of both sides."
Mrs Gough is the only civil union celebrant listed in the Yellow Pages for Wairarapa.
"I'm very lucky because I get a lot of civil unions but I do a lot of weddings too."
She hoped there would be a good turn out at the meeting.
Speaking for the Bill will be its sponsor Labour MP Louisa Wall and Green MP Kevin Hague.
Conservative Party leader Colin Craig and Masterton Baptist Church Pastor Rev Scott Lelievre will speak against it.
Wairarapa MP John Hayes previously told the Times-Age he would not attend the meeting because it would not be seen to be neutral.
The meeting will be held at Frank Cody Lounge at 6.30pm.
