Watch: A week inside an active volcano

Camping 200m inside an active volcano is understandably hot. Abseil 300m beyond that and you're not far away from cooking. "It would be like running a marathon with a wetsuit on," Auckland-based Geoff Mackley explained to the Herald on Sunday this morning from a hotel in Port Vila, the capital of Vanuatu. "It's very hot," he said. "It really saps your energy -- it's just extremely hot." Mackley was back in Port Vila recovering after leading a week-long volcanic expedition alongside fellow Auckland explorer and photographer Bradley Ambrose and Chris Horsley from England. Kiwi kayaker takes on Iceland waterfalls - Part 2

Ben and Anton adventure through more of the Icelandic wilderness in search of more perfect waterfalls. They settle on Godafoss. Godafoss translates to ‘Waterfall of the Gods’. It got its name during early Christian times in Iceland when Norse deities were thrown into the falls in an effort to establish Christianity as the sole religion of the country. These days it is a tourist hot spot and one of the most famous waterfalls in Iceland. There are several lines to run on Godafoss due to its horseshoe shape and we ran it multiple times. It varies in height from 10 - 14 meters tall and no matter what time of the day you run it you will have a huge crowd of tourists cheering you on. Source: Red Bull/youtube

Watch: Simulation shows how sun robbed Mars of atmosphere

Nasa's Mars-orbiting Maven spacecraft has discovered that the sun robbed the red planet of its once-thick atmosphere and water. On Friday, scientists reported that even today, the solar wind is stripping away about 100 grams of atmospheric gas every second. That's about a quarter-pound a second. Maven scientist Dave Brain told reporters he can't help but imagine hamburgers shooting out of the Martian atmosphere.NASA’s MAVEN spacecraft has observed this process in action – by measuring the speed and direction of ions escaping from Mars. This data visualization compares simulations of the solar wind and Mars atmospheric escape with new measurements taken by MAVEN. Source: NASA Goddard/Youtube
