Tiger's Nest Monastery, Bhutan

This stunningly-situated monastery, perched high in Bhutan's mountains, is one of the country's most popular tourist sites.

The Tiger's Nest (or Taktsang) monastery was given its name because in the 8th century a Buddhist master called Guru Padmakara was said to have flown to the spot on the back of a tigress, to subdue evil spirits in western Bhutan. Photo / Supplied
