New Zealand's top police have ignored a judge's recommendation and again denied diversion to an autistic man found taking light fittings in the wake of the Christchurch earthquake.

All details relating to an incident for which a woman faced two serious charges were suppressed at a sitting of Christchurch District Court in Rangiora today.

A 22-year-old man was sentenced on his 19th, 20th, and 21st charges of taking a motor vehicle, in the Christchurch District Court today.
