Pike River Mine families' spokesman Bernie Monk said he was gutted after the PM refused to help with a mine re-entry, after the mine's owners agreed to an attempt.

The Pike River Royal Commission of Inquiry will not be reopened for more evidence and there will be no delay in the commission's report being published, a court has ruled.

The Government and Solid Energy have entered into agreement over the recovery of 29 miners' bodies from Pike River mine as a condition of sale - but it could still be years off, and victims' families say some are 'heartbroken.'

A memorial will be completed in time for the second anniversary of the Pike River Mine disaster.

"That's the way the families feel. There's no closure on this until the bodies are out."
