State-owned power company Genesis Energy has reported a full year loss of $136 million after writing down by $183 million the value of its Huntly power station.

More than 300,000 Auckland power customers could get money next month.

Profits at New Zealand's largest energy distributor, Vector, have risen 16.3 per cent, but the recession means growth in new connections has slowed and volumes are down.

Issues being raised include quality of installation, building code compliance and significant power bill increases.
