Two Te Pahu School brothers have shown their talent in the national show ring after succeeding at the Royal Easter Show.
Jon and Paul Davey travelled to the ASB Showgrounds in Auckland last month with their calves Maccaroni and Hulk.
Ten-year-old Jon, with Maccaroni, was first in leading, second inpresentation and handling, champion leading presentation and handling and second in dairy type.
His younger brother Paul, 9, with calf Hulk, won the dairy type section and was fifth in leading and sixth in presentation and handling.
Their mother Hayley Davey says "the kids were chuffed to bits".
"Both boys came away with ribbons red and purple."
She says the boys were very dedicated rearing their calves.
"For eight months straight the boys have reared, groomed, and competed at their school calf club, group day, and most A&P shows all over the mid-northern region."
"It was such a highlight for the boys as they have worked so hard preparing their calves and learning how to produce them to show quality."
She says they competed against other children who were "the cream of the crop in the North Island".
"They've received many comments from fellow showies, and general public on how well they have handled their calves and on the success they've had for the season."
She says her sons have hung the calves' halters up for the season.
But that will only last until next month.
"They're looking forward to choosing another calf in July to do it all over again."
