What a difference a few days can make.
Soon after local photographer Adam Turnbull was pondering what frozen grass tasted like as he snapped cows and sheep in heavy frost on a fine and crisp Sunday morning, CHB was soaked by persistent rains as a tropical low from the north hit last Monday night and continued through Tuesday.
Elsthorpe and Omakere Schools closed on Tuesday and nearly 20 rural roads in CHB were closed due to surface flooding, with a further nine closed by fallen trees including Abbotsford Rd in Waipawa, which was not expected to reopen until this week.
CHB District Council warned on Friday that due to the instability of other trees, the area was dangerous and should not be entered.
