Dr Doug Edmeades has landed himself in a bit of hot water recently with his latest opinion piece where he outed himself as a climate change sceptic.

The Hamilton-based soil scientist spoke to The Country's Jamie Mackay saying he was prepared to be labelled a climate change denier after his column was published but he stands by his opinion.

"Part of the concern that I have is that the public is being fed innuendo. Great plumes of smoke coming out of chimneys is not CO2 so why do they pop that picture in front of us when they're going to talk about climate change?"

Dr Edmeades says people are being led to believe CO2 is a dangerous contaminant which is "absolute nonsense - CO2 is a natural fertiliser, that's what plants depend on to grow."

You can read Dr Edmeades' opinion piece here.
