Staff at Mangaohane in the Taihape high country have been working long and hard for the last few days to lead stock out of the snow covering the station.
The 4500ha station on the Taihape-Napier Rd ranges from 800 to 1200m above sea level. It was completely blanketed in snow last week, farm technician Alice Allsop said.
There was 80cm around the farm buildings, and more higher up. The station's covered yard were partially collapsed, under the weight of the snow.
Its 37,000 stock units had to be found "camped up in the snow" and led to places where they could feed - the ewes on kale and the cattle on silage and balage.
The eight full-time staff led them out by "snow raking" - bashing a trail through the snow with a quad bike or helicopter. All the animals were out now.
