Ewes with lambs at foot were young, medium types and they and the dry ewes sold to expectation.
A handful of hoggets were offered with only a few punters operating in that section and sale prices were similar to what has, for now, become the larger sale, the Monday prime sale.
Once again, the cattle sale featured an attractive entry of good, traditional two year old steers with most from regular vendors. In spite of the cattle entry being reduced by a third below last week, cattle sale prices were patchy with some sections even easing somewhat.
The good traditional steers, both older and yearling, attracted the usual attention and remained steady to firm.
Waitaiki Farm, Karioi, sold a few pens with 8 Angus/Herefords being knocked down for $1800 ($3.04) to top the day.
The yearling steer section was probably the day's strongest and regular vendor, JJ Farms of Kiwitea, sold 18 forward Angus yearlings for $1380 ($3.15).
After last week's strong showing, the bull section was pared back a little with a handful of older Friesians selling around the $1400 ($3/kg +) and the yearling bull section, in spite of being less than half the number of last week, actually eased.
Woodstock Farm, Colyton, sold yearling Friesian bulls for $1075 ($2.84) which was clearly less than last week's top money but the bull live weights were also reduced in line with the dollars.
Both the older heifer and the yearling heifer sections were dominated by dairy cross heifers.
Many of those heifers did offer a breeding option although some buyers were obviously there for the traditional heifers. Yearling heifers finished reasonably firm on lighter weights overall.
