Local Body elections are not far off now.
Rates are one of most farmer's biggest expenses so we need to try to ensure regulations are affordable and equitable. Local Exec members intend on going to the five local meet the candidate nights.
Water continues to be a main topic of conversation with Horizons. Sustainable nutrient management plans are being implemented around dairy farming.
We continue to try to ensure that regulations are fair and practical.
The focus does look to be moving back to sediment runoff from hills, so as sheep and beef farmers we can expect more regulations. It has been impressive to see the number of tree poles planted to try and reduce potential areas of erosion. Wetlands (the kidneys of the farm) are another funding focus area.
Beef and Lamb director consultation meetings are underway around the country. Key topics of discussion include the market development proposal and the constitution review. Feds will make a submission after hearing what farmers raise at these meetings.
Representatives from Feds are ensuring industry, local and national regulations that impact our businesses don't just slip in.
Thanks to all those who help by paying their membership. We have a new Territory Manager Bec O'Neale who's keen to get out and meet farmers and hear what's topical for you.
Roll on spring - enjoy.
