Despite recovery efforts from locals and emergency services, the orca stranded on a South Taranaki beach has passed away.

A climber who was reported missing on Mt Taranaki last night has been rescued in the early hours of this morning.

They had a splashy good time at the Stratford District Council Children's Day celebration at the TSB Pool, Stratford on Sunday, March 6.

Every child gave it their all at the Stratford District Rural Schools Swimming Sports event held on Monday, March 7, 2016 at the TSB Pool in Stratford.

The sun shone on the determined and dedicated walkers who participated in this year's Taranaki Relay for Life. Editor Ilona Hanne of the Stratford Press was there to capture some of the action.

Across the country flowers are being left out with the milk for tanker drivers to collect in memory of Michael Fairclough.
