Kiwi Marina Erakovic has enjoyed a strong return from illness at the WTA tournament in Acapulco.
The New Zealand No 1 has beaten local wildcard Ana Sofia Sanchez 6-2 6-2, just her second match win of the year.
After having to pull out Dubai last week, Erakovic says she's back in great shape.
"I was sick and I unfortunately had to pull out of Dubai so I went to Florida, recovered to do a training weekend and came here to Acapulco.
"So to win here was just really positive, I felt good out there on the court.''
Erakovic will face world No 42 Serbian Bojana Jovanovski for the first time in the second round
However, a permanent doubles partner remains a work in progress for Erakovic.
After splitting with former world No 1 Cara Black, Erakovic has had a different doubles partner at just about every tournament this year.
She is pairing up with Australian Ashleigh Barty in Acapulco, before continuing a trial with Serbian Petra Martic for the Indian Wells and Miami tournaments next month.
