Grant Waite was the leading New Zealand golfer at the PGA Tour's Texas Open, with a 68 in the first round today.
Waite stumbled on the 10th hole at the La Cantara Golf Club in San Antonio with a double bogey and ended his round with six birdies and two other bogeys.
It left him five shots behind American Paul Goydos, who was the clubhouse leader on 63, with half the field still out on the course.
Manawatu professional Tim Wilkinson had a steady round, shooting two birdies and a bogey on his way to a one-under 70.
Five bogeys offset by three birdies saw Phil Tataurangi finish with a two-over 73.
In Europe, Mark Brown has had a one under par 71 in the first round of the Irish Open, to be mid-field.
Michael Campbell's troubles continue after a four-over-par 76.
