Helen Clark has been airlifted out of Melbourne Airport in a police helicopter.
The Prime Minister was trapped at the airport this morning after baggage handlers angry at the role of Air New Zealand in the collapse of Ansett backed trucks in behind her aircraft.
Miss Clark's press secretary David Lewis told the New Zealand Press Association that Miss Clark was being flown towards an Australian Air Force base, but he would not say where.
Her plane was due to leave on a flight to Auckland at 8.45 this morning (NZT). It appeared the workers took the keys from the machinery causing delays in getting the vehicles blocking the flight moved.
Miss Clark was taken from the airport on the advice of the Australian Federal Police, Australian Associated Press reported.
