Psychiatrists say the man accused of murdering Auckland pensioner Hedley Gough is fit to plead.
Mark Ioata Mikaele, aged 21, appeared briefly in the Auckland District Court yesterday.
Mr Gough, 78, was found with stab wounds and head injuries in the lounge of his Waterview home on June 3.
Judge Russell Callender further remanded Mikaele in custody for a pre-depositions hearing next month.
