British Labour MP Austin Mitchell says he believes proposals to scale back working holidays for New Zealanders in Britain from two years to one have been dropped.
He believes lobbying of British Prime Minister Tony Blair by Prime Minister Helen Clark and Australian Prime Minister John Howard has worked.
Helen Clark is not jumping to conclusions, however, as she has received no formal notification that the idea has been dropped.
The British Government is carrying out a review of its immigration policies, including whether the working holiday scheme should be cut from two years to one.
Also under consideration is lifting a rule that prevented participants in the scheme from working in their professions.
