Staff hadn't seen 34-year-old Trevor since they sneaked him out the shop's back door last weekend, but had been told by one of his friends that he would be back to say thank you once things had settled down.
Lotto spokeswoman Karen Jones said it had definitely been a lucky week for the shop, but the luckiest shop title was still held by Peter Dunkerley Pharmacy in Hastings.
"The more people that buy tickets from a store the more chance they have of selling the winning ticket," Ms Jones said.
Residents hoping to see the town's newest multi-millionaire have been disappointed as he appears to have skipped town. That is unless rumours of him zooming around behind the wheel of a yellow Lamborghini are to be believed.
Trevor and his family have been keeping a low profile after he was bombarded with requests for financial hand-outs.
Yesterday the curtains of his Blunt St home remained closed and the lawns were slightly overgrown - but the Countdown Huntly checkout operator probably has bigger things on his mind.
While the Herald was talking to neighbours, people arrived in the afternoon to move his recycling bin off the kerb but the door remained unanswered.
Long-term Te Kauwhata residents said they knew little about the lucky winner and a bar tender at Te Kauwhata Tavern Trust said everyone had expected it would be someone they knew when they saw him on TV.
Trevor, originally from West Auckland, moved to Te Kauwhata about two years ago.
A neighbour, who did not want to be named, had not seen him since the win and said several cars in front of the house, including his blue Chevrolet Blazer, had not been parked there since the win.
Compass Realties property manager Sharon Hackett would not discuss whether Trevor had given notice to leave the property.
"I don't even know where he is. He's gone into hiding somewhere ... He's had enough strife and trouble in his life and he doesn't need any more hassle from anybody else."
