Thumbs down to the woman who, on Friday, October 30, at New Lynn New World, backed her car in beside mine and scraped my right rear guard, then drove off. She didn't leave her details, but many thanks to the witness who did. Okay ... so my car wasn't the flashest car in the carpark, but I am a student working to pay for it, plus pay my way through a four-year degree at uni. Luckily, minimal damage to my car, and obviously no damage at all to your conscience.

It's bad enough, and embarrassing enough, having your vehicle towed. And yes, we should not have parked where we did. But really, Amalgamated Car Parking Services, have you never heard of call-forward or automated messaging?
It's very frustrating trying to phone the number on the sign, only to get a number unobtainable tone. Eventually we found the yard and our van, and were advised that the company was in the process of changing phone systems. Let's hope they think of changing the signs as well.

Rave
A rave for our delivery person who puts our Herald safely in our mailbox every morning, rain or shine, probably before sunrise and when most people are still asleep.

We live in a property bordering the beautiful Bastion Pt. When we first came here about 11 years ago the grass was mown regularly and always looked great. Recently a new parks maintenance building was built in a position which totally ruins the wonderful iconic site, and one of Auckland's gems for tourists. But now the grass is mown only occasionally, and at the moment not for weeks, despite a new shed full of expensive machinery. Crazy!

Rave
Rave for the driver of a Brian Perry Civil ute who stopped his vehicle by the busy Queenstown Rd roundabout yesterday, flicked on his hazard lights, then helped an elderly man with a walking stick get across the road.

I drive down Albany Highway close to Albany Primary School at 8.30am on weekdays and it makes me smile to see people I assume are grandparents walking children to school.
Especially the Chinese grandpas with their brood in tow.
