A Northland woman who crashed a St John Ambulance has avoided a court conviction for her driving.
Adrienne Adella Owens, 29, a St John Ambulance driver, was discharged without conviction in Justices of the Peace traffic court at the Whangarei courthouse this week.
Owens lost control while driving an ambulance, carrying a patient, near Kaiwaka in January.
In July, she had pleaded guilty before Judge Arthur Tompkins to one charge of careless use of a motor vehicle after police withdrew a more serious charge of careless use of a motor vehicle causing injury.
Judge Tompkins had ordered her to undergo driver retraining.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable John Coxhead said driver retraining was a form of diversion and the defendant needed to admit the charge before diversion could take place. Mr Coxhead said the charge was withdrawn after Owens had completed her retraining.
Police charged Owens after an investigation found she had not breached St John Ambulance rules.
The ambulance patient later died but police deemed his death was not caused by the crash.
