Steel bars and concrete slabs are springing from the earth at Ngawha as Northland's prison takes shape.
The concrete cell walls, doors windows and furniture are being made by 36 Auckland inmates on the Corrections Inmate Employment scheme.
The project was on target for the scheduled completion date in February 2005, with plans for inmates to move in the following month, project manager Warren Chapman said.
